Business Psychology for Teachers is a programme designed to demonstrate the potential benefits of using best practices from Business Psychology in Adult Education. The programme consists of three modules: Coaching, NLP and Mediation, all of which are highly interactive, flexible and suitable for any professional in adult education.  Every module includes theory, practical exercises, feedback and discussion.

Used separately or in conjunction, the modules equip teachers with powerful techniques for student motivation, creativity, and personal growth, as well as dealing with difficult situations or altering unhelpful behaviours.

Coaching is a technique that enables individual creativity, growth, self-esteem, and as a result leads to higher performance, be that job productivity, learning new skills or going through a change process.  Teachers learn basic coaching skills such as building rapport, active listening, goal setting, giving structured positive feedback.

An interactive programme demonstrating how teachers’ coaching skills could increase students’ motivation and participation, and improve group dynamics.  Teachers get a chance to be a coach and a coachee, thus receiving a chance to choose techniques most suitable for them for potential use in a class.

NLP is a multi-dimensional process that involves Neurology, Language and Programming of behaviours. Working with perceptions of reality rather than with the “truth” or “proper way to do things”, NLP has been shown to be a unique tool for building individual models of behaviour, quitting bad habits, changing attitudes and connecting to others.

The NLP module of the course mainly concerns teachers’ individual issues such as building confidence, reducing anxiety and stress, facing difficult situations, and changing unhelpful behavioural patterns.

Mediation, or the dispute resolution skills module, equips teachers with conflict prevention techniques and with skills for dealing with existing conflict situations. Unresolved conflicts are reasons for much emotional strain that potentially damage individual performance and well being. However, when handled wisely, conflict may become a basis for resolving differences and improving communication.

During training teachers work at given scenarios, practising newly learnt techniques in role play and look into existing conflict situations at their workplace, generating options for handling difficult behaviours in class and resolving conflicts.
